What is MoboStation?
MoboStation is a cellphone docking system, used to enhance the capabilities of your current cellphone service. The MoboStation product provides a bridge between your cellphone and your standard telephone equipment. MoboStation additionally implements enhanced VoIP (Voice Over IP) technology, allowing customers to make inexpensive local and long distance phone calls through a high-speed Internet connection.
How can I maximize the benefits of using the MoboStation product?
It largely depends on what your current cell phone package provides, as well as the time of day and location you are wanting to call. Most calls placed through the MoboStation, (including Canada, USA and 20 other countries) are charged at a flat rate of 5 cents per minute.
(A) To place calls using your cellular provider
Press the pound key "#", followed by the full phone number.
This will place a call through your existing cellular provider, and you will pay whatever existing rates your cellular provider charges. If you have an unlimited cellular plan or a surplus of unused minutes on your cellphone, you will want to press the pound key "#" before dialling a phone number.
(B) Placing calls using the MoboStation VoIP network
Dial the full phone number, starting with 1 or 011.
You will be charged at the current MoboStation calling rate. This is ideal for customer who don't have many free outgoing minutes on their cell phone service, and would like to avoid the high per minute rates from their cellular provider.
What type of Internet connection does MoboStation need?
MoboStation works with most high speed Internet services, including ADSL, Cable and even some satellite Internet service providers.
Can I use the MoboStation service if I have Cable/ADSL "Lite" service?
While you are free to try out our service with a lower bandwidth service, they will not generally provide enough bandwidth to support high quality audio and call stability. We therefore do not recommend our customers use MoboStation with these lower speed Internet services.
What are the differences between my current landline phone service and using the MoboStation service?
When connected to the MoboStation cellphone docking station, you have the choice of either placing phone calls using your existing cellular plan, or placing inexpensive VoIP calls using your high speed Internet connection. While a standard cellphone does not offer inexpensive International calling, connecting standard telephones or fax machines, the MoboStation does. MoboStation provides solid, matured VoIP technology. The sound quality is almost indistinguishable from a standard telephone, and may provide better quality than your existing cellphone.
Does it matter if my computer is running or turned off when using the MoboStation Phone Adapter?
There is no need to switch off or turn on your computers when using the MoboStation Phone Adapter. Your computers and the MoboStation Phone Adapter will seamlessly share the Internet connection at the same time.
Can I use fax or dial-up with the service?
Outgoing connections can take full advantage of MoboStation's VoIP capabilities, and can be used for sending faxes or dial-up networking.
Incoming connections, however, still rely on your existing cellphone service, which normally are not capable of handling the complex data connections used by dial-up or faxing. You can try receiving a fax to see if it will work with your current cellular provider, or else contact your cellular provider directly to inquire.
